Kerry/Edwards Joins OH Fray!

According to this
press release from the campaign of Green Party Presidential candidate
David Cobb, Kerry/Edwards has joined the fray in Ohio...
Ohio -- Today, attorneys representing the Kerry-Edwards campaign filed papers in Delaware County, Ohio to intervene in legal proceedings in defense of Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb, Libertarian Michael Badnarik and their legal counsel, the National Voting Rights Institute, who are seeking a recount of all votes cast for president in the Ohio 2004 general election.
Last week, an Ohio judge ruled that Delaware County didn't have to obey an injunction that had been filed to force recount activities to begin in time to finish before Ohio officially chooses its electors on December 6, saying that since the plaintiffs, Cobb and Libertarian candidate Badnarik didn't have a shot at the electors, there was no reason to accelerate the recount on their account.
I
hope this filing by Kerry/Edwards means that the Judge may reconsider his ruling now that a candidate who could benefit from the recount has joined the action. I say, I
hope. I know that many have given up ono the Ohio recount's likelihood of flipping the electoral votes, but it's still nice to see Kerry/Edwards show a little backbone. Thanks, Rev. Jackson, for turning up the pressure.
Caveats:
- Not sure what Kerry/Edwards' role is in all of this...did they file a brief or are they joining as plaintiffs? It's not clear to me that this is going to force the judge to reconsider, though my impression from what I've read is that he'll take another look.
- This is going to escalate in the courts big time, and I haven't seen any reason so far why the Supreme Court wouldn't once again scotch the recount and reinstall King George.
Additional thoughts:
- If K/E is able to force SCOTUS to steal the election again, it will fire up the troops once more, and give added incentive to those Dem Senators who might not be feeling up to filibustering Bush idealogue SCOTUS nominees.
- The courts are ultimately where we're going to have to fight this in order to get a audit done...Blackwell and the county officials are not going to give us any transparency...the courts are going to have to force transparency.
- Three cheers to Dennis Kucinich who was on board with the recount action early, and to Jesse Jackson for forcing the media to cover this over the last couple of days...he may be a self-promoter, but his presence can generate a crowd, and that forces the press to write stories.
